I look so good stood at the bar
I'm feeling lucky now
Tonight's my night and that's for sure,
And there you stood
Looking like a dream, dressed in silver PVC
I never wanted it to end
You looked at me and sat me down
You knew just what to do
Things were looking up as you held me tight
Then you looked down at my shoes
And you said you had to leave, in your silver PVC
I never knew what I did wrong
Well, I guess it was the right place, right
time, wrong shoes
It was the right place, right time, wrong shoes
Well, no-one said the secret to my success Was on the ends of my legs
I never even knew the rules
So I guess it was the right place, right time, wrong shoes...
I called you up on the telephone
I got your number from your friend
And I asked you why you left me alone
And this is what you said
"Well, it's not you it's me, I couldn't stand what was on your feet
That's why I'm in therapy"
So you said, it was the right place, right
time, wrong shoes
It was the right place, right time, wrong shoes
Well, no-one told me I could get ahead in life wearing Adidas or Nike
I never even questioned why
So I guess it was the right place, right time, wrong shoes...
Well, I guess it was the right place, right
time, wrong shoes
It was the right place, right time, wrong shoes
Well, I guess it was the right place, right time, wrong shoes
It was the right place, right time, wrong shoes.
ABOUT THE SONG...
The title alone is an enigma. So is the song
about shoes or about conformity and how we should try to be ourselves
and fight the system. Well, it's about shoes. I mean, really who writes
a fucking song about shoes? Only I could come up with such idiocy. But
really the song is inspired by a real situation. Many years ago i went
to a fancy dress ball, with my girlfriend Lian. This was many moons ago
and i had no time to prepare so i had to improvise. Since I owned a red
70's shirt i decided to go as that great 70's icon John Travolta in Saturday
night Fever. I had the shirt, black trousers and waist coat and even a
slightly 70's style haircut at the time. But what was i lacking? Shoes.
Unfortunately i only had my Doc Martens with me and thus had the wrong
shoes. Right Place Right Time Wrong Shoes. And also my girlfriend Lian
was wearing silver PVC (as per the lyrics) so all turned out well. It's
a great rocker and since it follows Welcome.. it's a great introduction
to the lyrical style of the band. Generally i favour comedy lyrics which
catchy hooks so expect more...
